So I’m still fairly new to asoiaf tumblr. Why is it racist to depict the Martells as POC? They’re “salty” dornish and are said to have olive skin—which is definitely a characteristic of some white populations, particularly in the Mediterranean region, but can also apply to MENA people. The “sandy” dornishmen are said to be darker too. Personally I’ve always imagined the “salty” and “sandy” dornish as Mediterranean but I don’t fully comprehend why it’s inherently racist to imagine them as MENA or Indian. I’ve seen stuff that’s definitely racist, like depicting the dornish as south Asian or MENA and drawing them all in extremely revealing clothing compared to other characters, or the assumption that because Elia was dornish she would’ve been okay with Rhaegar and Lyanna, but I’m having trouble seeing why POC Elia is inherently racist

Hmmmmm...this isn't really a very prevalent idea in fandom though since the majority of people accept the Dornish as POC. I can't say I've ever seen this being a major topic of discussion.

That being said, I personally don't care if people have that headcanon it's just annoying when people discuss it as though it's a fact (if your point requires arguing with the author that should tell you something). Even more so when said headcanon gets used as a prop. Wanting a specific group to be POC just to use it as leverage is uncomfortable, to say the least. It's very tiring to hear that [x] character is racist because they did something Martell stans didn't like. And a lot of it is coming from Elia stans who fetishize her suffering, want her story to be even more tragic, and want reasons to hate Rhaegar and Lyanna. Then a lot of said discussions aren't even given any nuance. It's just "her treatment is racist because she's a woman of color". So is it racist to depict the Martells as POC? No. Is everyone who does so using their identity as a prop? No..but a lot of people do it for the wrong reasons and that is an issue.

My hobbies include cooking, gardening, logic puzzles, smoking oui'd in the bath, mathematics (I know it's weird but I'm having fun), swimming, guitar, and singing. I'm also learning (very slowly) to crochet. I also like to just sit around and read/watch tv, like many people. I like routine and living at my own pace, and I get burnt out easily if I am busy or if there are a lot of changes in my life in a short period. To me, the most attractive/important traits in people are insightfulness, compassion, confidence, and truthfulness. My love languages are quality time and physical touch. My ideal date is something like a zoo or aquarium, or a natural history museum, followed by a casual meal at a cafe or something. I love you!

Because: If the only thing I knew about you was that your love language was physical touch, Josh is your man. But I also think he is the most confident and most compassionate. I think you'd make a great pair. He would love to cook with you, he'd probably be so impressed by your green thumb, and he would love to listen to you play the guitar and sing. Scenario:

We're gonna pretend like Josh has a clawfoot tub in his house even though I'm sure he does not. But it's ~for the ambiance~.

You loved taking baths at Josh's house

Of course you loved everything about being at Josh's house, namely the fact that he was there, but baths at his house were superior for one particular reason

The tub

It was a deep, white porcelain tub standing on four golden ornate feet

The surrounding bathroom only added to the spa-like feel, too

Sage green paint on the walls, deep brown heated tiles on the floor, a large mirror across from the tub framed in little golden roses, leafy plants filling up most of the empty spaces, and a little wooden stool right next to the tub

It was arguably the most relaxing room in his house and Josh knew how much you loved it

In fact, he had even bought a wooden tray that slotted across the tub so you could read, have a glass of wine, set up your tablet and watch Netflix, all from the comfort of a warm bath

And that's where you were today, sunk down into the deep tub, covered with bubbles, a book resting on the tray in front of you

The sound of Josh singing to himself elsewhere in the house was comfortable background noise for your reading

You did note, however, when the singing got closer and closer, until Josh was standing in the doorway of the bathroom

"How's it going in here?" he asked

You shot him a smile, telling him how relaxed you were

He entered the room and moved the stool to the head of the tub so he could sit behind you

His hands traveled up into your hair which was thrown up into a loose bun and he pulled the scrunchie out, letting your hair fall

He worked his fingers into it, lightly massaging your scalp and playing with your hair

You hummed and closed your eyes, letting the feeling overtake you

"Any requests tonight, mama?" he asked

Josh would sometimes serenade you with your song of choice

You thought for a moment before deciding on one from his own discography, Broken Bells

He began an a cappella version of the song, singing it much softer and slower than normal

You sank a little lower into the hot water, letting his hands continue in your hair as he sang softly to you

Maybe it wasn't, in fact, the tub you loved. Maybe it was just Josh
